Eco-Epidemiology of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus
نویسنده
چکیده
Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus (EEEV; family Togaviridae, genus Alphavirus) a highly pathogenic mosquito-borne virus is endemic to eastern North America. The ecology of EEEV in Florida differs from that in other parts of the USA. EEEV in the Northeastern USA is historically associated with freshwater wetlands; however no formal test of habitat associations of EEE in Florida has been reported. Geographical Information Sciences (GIS) was used in conjunction with sentinel chicken EEEV seroconversion rate data as a means to examine landscape features associated with EEEV transmission in Walton County, Florida. Sentinel sites were categorized as enzootic, periodically enzootic, and negative based on the amount of chicken seroconversions to EEEV from 2005-2009. EEEV transmission was then categorized by land cover usage using Arc GIS 9.3. The land classification data was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis

Molecular Epidemiology of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus, New York
Perpetuation, overwintering, and extinction of eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) in northern foci are poorly understood. We therefore sought to describe the molecular epidemiology of EEEV in New York State during current and past epizootics. To determine whether EEEV overwinters, is periodically reintroduced, or both, we sequenced the E2 and partial NSP3 coding regions of 42 EEEV isolate...

Encephalitic viruses in the Family Togaviridae, genus Alphavirus are zoonotic pathogens that are transmitted via hematophagous arthropods and have a widespread distribution in North, Central and South America and include Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV), Western equine encephalitis virus (WEEV), Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV). The deficit in specific antiviral drugs or vacc...

It has been found that certain arbovirvises may be transmitted among avian hosts by modes other than mosquito bite. Holden (1) demonstrated contact transmission of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) virus among penned pheasants. He postulated that infections resulted from ingestion of infected materials or by inhalation of infective droplets. Chamberlain and others (2) observed contact infection...
متن کاملComplete Coding Sequences of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis Virus Strains Isolated from Human Cases
We obtained the complete coding genome of an eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) strain, EEEV V105-00210, and the complete genome of a Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus (VEEV) strain, VEEV INH-9813. They were obtained from human cases and are proposed as reference challenge strains for vaccine and therapeutic development in animal models.
متن کاملZoonotic encephalitides caused by arboviruses: transmission and epidemiology of alphaviruses and flaviviruses
In this review, we mainly focus on zoonotic encephalitides caused by arthropod-borne viruses (arboviruses) of the families Flaviviridae (genus Flavivirus) and Togaviridae (genus Alphavirus) that are important in both humans and domestic animals. Specifically, we will focus on alphaviruses (Eastern equine encephalitis virus, Western equine encephalitis virus, Venezuelan equine encephalitis virus...
